The past 48 hours have been dramatic and unforgettable for players, administrators and stakeholders of Cameroon Elite One champions PWD Social Club of Bamenda.
The Bus Incident
In the wee hours of Friday, March 19th, 2021 the entire squad of players and staff of the team en route to Yaoundé-Cameroon cheated death as their team bus from Bamenda for a league game away in Yaoundé against Dragon FC caught flames in Makenene.
The entire 30-seater coaster only purchased late last year to prepare for this season got consumed by the wicked flames alongside some of the team’s equipments leaving a few persons with cuts but no major casualty.
The replacement campaign
A fundraising campaign launched on the day of the incident has now raised over the targeted amount of 40 millions FCFA as sympathizers of the Club manifested their desire to replace the team bus. Former presidents Peter Mafany and Ni John Fru plus other dignitaries across different works of life have contributed to the tune of 42.5 millions FCFA as at Saturday March 20th.
The process continues this Sunday and the funds are expected to be handed to the Club soonest to ensure replacement of the bus and other items lost in the incident.
Besides the monetary support, Cameroon Clubs also displayed their support to the PWD family after the incident.
The Club’s League game for the weekend has since been canceled and players given some time off.
