PWD of Bamenda beat New stars of Douala 3-2 in the much anticipated encounter that took place in the Limbe middle farms stadium.
The troops of Augustine Choupo did not only cement their first victory of the play “down’s”, they also achieved a milestone, winning a game in the town of Limbe for the first time in 2 year’s.
PWD of Bamenda ended 8th in the regular season while New stars of Douala was bottom of the pile in group A. The both sides prior to this one had met twice, with a win for either side in the regular season.
PWD of Bamenda played a high pressing game and at the 2nd minute of play, midfield metronome Louiz Mbah gave them the lead.
New stars of Douala had nothing going for them but took advantage of a corner kick to score a scrappy goal courtesy Ange Joel Tchofo, leveling the game before the break.
The second segment became a goal festival. Auriol Fokou profited from a rebound, and accepted the crowd’s call to shoot to good effect at the 61st minute.
New stars tried attacking more and got their reward when confusion got into the PWD back line: Julious Atengong was caught off guard and a speedy Frank Daniel Bille waisted no time in placing the ball in the net at the 84th minute.
Just when everyone thought there will be no more drama, PWD set out on a lightening counter attack with Ade Minof on the fore front. The midfielder made long strides and side footed the ball into the net for 3-2.
Coach Augustine Choupo speaking to kick442 was on the verge of tears “I am very happy for this game. I knew that New stars of Douala could not be more physical in the 90 minutes. I am very, very happy”.
