Cameroonian forward Nchout Njoya Ajara has told kick442.com that competing for the 2018 /2019 Puskas Awards with the likes of Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already success for her.
She was speaking following her recent nomination for 2018/2019 Awards alongside 9 other players.
“Football is a game with practice as the key,the output we give on matchday depends on our work rate in training. When I try something in training and it works, I try to do the same thing during games” .
The Norwegian based Cameroon striker’s goal against New Zealand in Cameroon’s last group game at the 2019 Women’s FIFA World Cup in France caught the attention of the technical panel for the Puskas Awards making her one of just 3 ladies whose goals have been included for the Award.
The 26 year old Cameroonian striker took the World by surprise with her composure before beating 2 defenders repeatedly before slotting in a ball that had come from the Cameroon half.
Ajara’s goal finished 2nd to Brazilian Christina’s header against Australia and Ajara thinks votes decided the winner and not necessarily the beauty of the goals.
“We have to understand that FIFA’s role was to pick the best goals at the World Cup, the rest is down to the number of voters you get, that is why I call on all those who have supported me in my career to massively vote for me this time around and why not get others vote for me”.
Nchout Njoya Ajara is in the running for the award with some football greats especially the likes of Andres Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and she thinks it a previlege.
“Being in competition with the best is one of the biggest privilege in my career, it is a dream come true, it is already a prize and only motivates me to work harder and remain at the top”
Ajara speaks about her nomination
Ajara is the only African player amongst 10 nominees. FIFA was massively criticized for handing the goal of the 2019 Women’s World Cup to Christina whose goal at the World Cup wasn’t as complicated to get as Ajara’s.
