24-year old Tatah Carine has won a fourth Mount Cameroon Race of Hope title. The season winner emerged champion after completing the course in 5 hours 27 minutes.
Victory in the 27th edition of the race this Saturday February 19, recovering the crown she lost to Kitan Mildred last year.
Carine swept three first place finishes between 2018-2020 but lost to Kitan Mildred last year, settling for a second spot finish, a result she vowed to better this time around and has done just that.
“I will like to tell my fans that I will not fail them this time around,” she hinted 48 hours before the event.
Carine latest win takes her close to more successful Athlete Yvonne Ngwaya and Serah Etongue who have written their names in the history books of the competition.
Though Carine still has much of her career ahead of her, she can still equal legendary Serah Etongue’s four successes at the event and target Yvonne Gwaya’s record seven wins before her 30s.
Last year, Carine missed the chance of matching Sarah Liengu Etongue’s four consecutive wins record of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999.
Only Ngwaya Yvonne who won the race on five occasions between 2009-2013 has a longer streak in the women’s category.
Last year’s winner Kitan Mildred finished second to Tatah Carine with under two separating them.
Women’s single top three:
1st Tatah Carine 5 hours 27 minutes.
2nd Kitan Mildred 5hr 27min 10sec
3rd Tumi Macrina Yinyuy
5hrs 45min 20 seconds
In the men’s category, Nsanbila Elvis won the race, completing the distance between the Molyko Omnisport Stadium and the submit of Mount Cameroon and back within 4 hours 32 minutes.
