Cameroonian international Joel Tagueu and his club Maritimo were in action against FC Porto on matchday 20 of the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Goals from Mateus Uribe and a late penalty from Otavio gave FC Porto all three points and maintained the team in the second position and one point ahead of third-place SC Braga.
In a 4-3-3 formation put out by Coach Milton, Joel Tagueu was the central striker charged with getting the goals with support from Edgar Costa and Jorge Correa.
Unfortunately for Joel Tagueu the defence line of FC Porto proved too strong and he was limited to just a few opportunities to get a goal. Maritimo had 8 shots and just two were on target.
Joel Tagueu then committed a foul at the 69mins which let to him picking up a yellow card. Just five minutes late Joel Tagueu was substituted at the 74mins as Coach Milton Mendes looked to inject a fresh impetus in the game.
This is the second consecutive defeat for Maritimo and Joel Tagueu in the last two games. Last time out the team lost 2-1 away at Tondela, with Joel Tagueu scoring a goal at that encounter.
The defeat maintained them at the bottom of the table with just 17 points after 20 games played. They are one point away from Farense in the fifteen positions. A run of successive victories will do well in bringing the team out of the relegation zone and avoid the scenario of being relegated.
Maritimo will next be in action for matchday 21 on February 28 as they face Portimonense knowing a victory is what is demanded.
