Cameroon and Abia Angels midfielder, Maxi Bilong says it’s a thing of joy to be in the same Club with her Cameroon sisters in another country (Nigeria).
The only foreign player to score in the 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership has scored two goals for Abia Angels and is among three players with two goals for her Club alongside Margaret Ademulegun, and Nmesoma Ibeh.
“We are three Cameroonians playing for Abia Angels. I, Reine Bakendj, and Mvogo Stella. In my last team in Cameroon, I played together with Bakendj. I feel so happy because it’s good to have the same players from Cameroon with the same fighting spirit in a Club and it makes me happy every time I am with my Cameroon sisters in another country like Nigeria.” She told www.kick442.com.
Maxi Bilong scored her second goal for the season on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, when FC Robo Queens forced Abia Angels to a 1-1 draw in their week eleven game.
She said: “I feel so happy scoring two goals for Abia Angels so far this season but the two goals are still small because I have missed some chances that could have resulted in my team winning their games and getting more points.
“I want to score many goals again. Every opportunity that I get to score that will give my Club victory, I will be happy to convert such chances and victory for my Club will make me and my teammates happy.”
Bilong who started her football career in her home country of Cameroon opined that her passion for the round leather game from young age endeared her to the beautiful game.
“I had a crazy passion for football since my childhood so I have always had to play with the boys in Cameroon. From there in 2007, I came out among the best player who got a place at the Cameroon Brewery School but there I could not play football because it is a thing reserved for boys. Until 2012, we have the chance to have a club in our locality that was affiliated with D2 in Cameroon. We did three years trying to access D1 and it is only the third year that we have the ticket for D1. I emerged as the best player in the region with the club. From Social Football, Daughter of Mbam to Inoubou but three years later we went down to D2. This is the major reason why I had to try other horizons which made me join Abia Angels.
“In the next five years, I see myself in another country possibly in Europe where I will be playing the real professional league.”
Maxi Bilong scored her first goal of the season on December 23, 2021, when Abia Angels defeated DreamStar FC Ladies 2-1 before scoring her second goal last week.
Abia Angels occupied the 12th position on the league table with eight points from eleven games, a point ahead of their next opponent, Ibom Angels, and a place above the relegation zone.
