Cameroon international Pierre Kunde Malong was in the team from kick off. Mainz went into the game with knowing a victory against relegation threatened Weder Bremen was imperative.

Two first half goals from Robin Quaison and Jean Boetius gave Mainz a comfortable first half two-nil lead.

Yuya Osaka pulled one back for Weder Bremen earlier in the second segment, but it wasn’t to be as Edimilson Fernandes sealed the victory and survival for the host later in the game.

It finished on a 3-1 in favor Mainz, and meant the Club will be in the competition again next season.

The full time score provoked jubilant scenes amongst the players at the Stadium, unfortunately without their fans.

The result mean the Club will enter its 12 consecutive Bundesliga campaign.

Malong started the game, and lasted 65 minutes, before been replaced by Edimilson Fernandes with his side leading by 2-1.

The victory is the Club’s 11th of the season and takes their points tally to 37 points from 33 games played so far.

With one game left, Kunde’s Mainz are on the 13th spot in the 18 Clubs championship.

Mainz are 7 points away from the relegation playoffs and 9 points away from the automatic relegation place.

They travel to Leverkusen on Saturday to face Bayer Leverkusen in the last game of the season.

In all, it has been a great season for 24-year-old Pierre Kunde Malong. He has featured in 27 of his Clubs 33 Bundesliga games and scored four goals.
