Major League Soccer giants New England Revolution have begun protocols to sign 26-year-old Cameroonian holding midfielder Petrus Boumal Mayega when his current contract at Russian premier Ural runs out in the summer, Kick442.com understands.
The former Sochaux and CSKA Sofia versatile Cameroonian joined Ural in the summer of 2017 and has been a mainstay at the club since then. The ex Cameroon under-23 international has featured in 10 games this term. Revolution see him as the missing piece in their MLS success equation.
Noted for his combative play style, Boumal caught the attention of former Indomitable Lions coach and retired midfield genuis Clarence Seedorf who gave him his full international debut in 2018.
The Dutchman named Boumal in Cameroon’s starting in an AFCON 2019 qualifiers game against Malawi in October 2018 and many back home see him as an important component of the Cameroon team.
Seedorf preselected the Yaounde native for the 2019 AFCON but he was left out of Cameroon’s final squad despite having an impressive display against Zambia in a warm up game for the tournament.
Should the New England Revolution get their Cameroonian man, it will be a big catch for coach Bruce Arena’s side as they look to better their 7th place finish in the Eastern conference in 2019.
Kick442.com is monitoring the situation at the Gillette Stadium and will bring further developments when there is any or if Boumal or the club comments on the subject.
