Brazil and world football legend Pele’s son Edinho has revealed that his one time buoyant father feels ‘depressed’ due to his health problems.

The three times FIFA World Cup winner has had health problems with his hips which have eventually impeded his free movement leading to him requiring a specially adapted walking frame to go around.

Pele who turns 80 in October this year, has been in a wheelchair in his recent public appearances.

“He is very fragile in relation to mobility. He had a hip replacement and didn’t have ideal or adequate rehabilitation,” Edinho told

“He has this mobility problem and that has set off a kind of depression. Imagine, he’s the king, he was always such an imposing figure and today he can’t walk properly.”

Pele is Brazil’s leading international goal scorer of all times with 77 goals and is highly regarded by many as greatest footballer of all times.

He scored an outstanding 1,091 goals in 1,281 appearances for Santos in 18 years though not all the goals were scored in official matches.
