The head coach of the Teranga Lions of Senegal has 22-year old midfielder Pape Allasane Gueye for the rest of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
The midfielder who featured in Senegal’s 1-0 win against Zimbabwe in their AFCON 2021 opener wasn’t included in the squad that played goalless against Guinea last Tuesday due to a suspension by FIFA.
However the player appealed the decision and has received a favourable response.
Origin of the dispute
Gueye joined Watford from Le Havre on a £45,000-a-week deal in the summer of 2020, but the same summer the player claimed he had been badly advised and called off the deal after being registered by Watford.
The player later joined joined Marseille but Watford reported the matter to FIFA who have now taken action.
The Montreuil native will return to the Senegal squad to face Malawi on Tuesday.
Born in France to Senegalese parents,Gueye began his career with Blanc-Mesnil SF where he spent five years before switching to Le Havre AC in 2012.
He has been capped for the Under 18 and Under 19 teams of France but opted to represent the Teranga Lions of Senegal and this AFCON which is his first competition.
Coach Aliou Cisse has a full squad of players to pick a team from.
