Mababa "Pape" Diouf

French-Senegalese former Olympique Marseille president Mababa “Pape” Diouf has lost his battle against the deadly CoronaVirus this Tuesday evening.

Local media is reporting that the 68-year-old died in Dakar Senegal.

Pape contracted the Covid-19 in one of his recent visits to the Ivory Coast.

The football sports personality who has occupied different role in the industry including being a journalist and a sports agent had been hospitalized in Senegal’s capital city Dakar but his family had resolved to airlift him to France this Tuesday evening but he gave up the ghost just before his evacuation.

Born in Abéché in Chad in December 1951,Diouf wad very popular on the African continent especially to French football followers and Olympic Marseille faithfuls.

He was president of the popular French club between 2005-2009. He remains the only African to be named president of a top club in Europe.

He masterminded the recruitment of Mbami Modest at Olympique Marseille and served as agent to Marcel Desailly,William Gallas, Didier Drogba Basile Boli,Joseph Bell Antoine amongst others.

The former Marseillais journalist return to Senegal with his family in 2018.

His death is certainly a big loss to millions on the African continent and in France if not the entire Europe.
