Fresh from returning to the Russian side, CSKA Moscow after last month’s TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2022), Super Falcons forward, Francisca Ordega scored a goal as her team defeated FK Yenisey 2-0 in the Russian Cup Women quarter-final on Friday.
After being reduced to ten players with a red card to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Myasnikova in the 61st minute, CSKA Moscow opened the scoring three minutes later.
It was an unfortunate situation for Azerbaijan defender, Diana Mammadova who scored an own goal in the 64th minute.
CSKA Moscow doubled its lead in the 76th minute thanks to Francisca Ordega’s strike.
The goal was Ordega’s first after her return from WAFCON 2022 in Morocco where Nigeria finished fourth and qualified for Australia/New Zealand 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The win over FK Yenisey secured CSKA Moscow’s passage into the semi-final of the Russia Cup Women where the club will face Zvezda 2005 on September 10, 2022.
Before the semi-final game, CSKA Moscow will play its concluding three league games against Rubin Kazan, Zvezda 2005, and Lokomotiv Moscow.
CSKA Moscow occupies the third position on the log with 34 points after 15 games, the same points as Lokomotiv Moscow and nine points behind leaders, Zenit.
The top four teams will qualify for the Championship Group where the league winners will emerge.
