Sources in the Netherlands are reporting that Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper, Andre Onana Onana will travel to France to complete a switch to Lyon after the rest of the Ajax squad returns from their current pre-season camp in Spain.
It appears Marc Overmars and the rest of the Ajax Amsterdam staff have resigned to losing Onana to the French club.
Sources say Ajax and Lyon have reached an agreement for a 7Millions Euro transfer for the former Barcelona B and Fundes Sport Academy net minder.
Last week, French daily L’Equipe is reported that the 25-year old has given his okay to join French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais but his Dutch club with which he has a running contract till the summer of 2022 they wanted €10 million for any deal.
Last week, this online portal reported that recently-appointed coach Peter of Lyon, Bosz had identified the current Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper as a major requirement for success for his project at the Groupama Stadium.
Last month, Onana had a one-year ban for consumption of banned substance reduced to nine months; this makes him available for competitive football only on November 3 as it will be nine months from his February 2021.
His unavailability for the start of the season means he can move to Lyon and start the season as back-up for 30-year old Portuguese goalkeeper Anthony López.
Onana’s current contract at the Cryuiff Arena runs till the summer of 2022 and Ajax wanted to extend the relationship but unfortunately for the Club that now looks impossible as Onana has his eyes away from Amsterdam.
The former Fundesport Academy trainee was linked with a couple of Clubs last summer including Chelsea, PSG, Barcelona amongst others but this time around Arsenal, Inter Milan and now Lyon want the boy from Nkol-Ngok.
Since arriving Amsterdam, Andre has grown into one of the best goalkeeper in the world.
The Cameroonian joined the Dutch side in 2015 from Barcelona B and became Ajax’s undisputable first choice keeper in the 2016/2017 season. Since then, he has made 122 appearances in all competitions.
In the 2019-2020 season, Onana was involved in 39 games, conceded 37 goals in all competitions with 15 clean sheets from 3500 minutes of football unfortunately his subsequent season was curtailed by a UEFA ban for involuntarily consuming a ban substance.
Before his February 2021 suspension from football activities, he helped Ajax Amsterdam to the top of the Dutch championship.
Onana has contributed in winning two dutch league titles with the third abandoned in the Corona Virus punctuated season.
He can also be credited for dutch domestic cup won for the Ajax faithfuls.
A move to Lyon will mean he will re-unite with coach Peter who was his trainer at Ajax plus international colleague Karl Toko-Ekambi Brilliant who is a key player at the Groupama Stadium.
