Coach of Naija Ratels FC, Bankole Olowookeere says the major focus of his side is to qualify for the Super Six of 2021/2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
The former DreamStar FC Ladies coach after his side’s 2-2 draw with Edo Queens in Benin City on Wednesday.
“We planned for the game although, from the start of the game, it turns another way, we pushed and fought back. Thank God that we were able to pick a point from an away match. This is as good as a win and we thank God for that.
“The slogan at Naija Ratels is one day at a time. We have played the first game and the second one. Won one and drew the second one. We have to go back to our drawing board to re-strategise and win the next match. Our major focus is to qualify for the Super Six which is an important thing. We are not boasting as a debutant, but taking our time and utilising our chances. Instead of losing, we turned it to a draw and the one that we ought to draw, we turn it to a win.”
The Abuja-based Naija Ratels fought back fr 2-0 down to secure a crucial draw against the Wemimo Mathew tutored side, Edo Queens.
Wemimo Mathew during her post-match reaction also toiled part of Bankole Olowookeere opining that the major focus is to qualify for the Super Six at the end of the day with many games to be played.
She said: “It was a good game from the opponent. They fought till the last and were able to get a draw against us. My girls tried and gave their best. In football, it’s just like that. We went away and won our first match. This is just the beginning of the league and still have a lot of matches to play. The most important thing is for us to qualify for the Super Six. Once the team qualifies for the Super Six, we will have the time to beef up the team with some training.
“Scoring goals is the most important part of football. Today, we ought to have scored up to four or five goals in the first half but we were unable to convert our chances. The game was not too bad.”
Naija Ratels FC will face Adamawa Queens on Matchday three of the NWFL Premiership at the Area 10 Sports Complex.
Edo Queens will travel to Lokoja to trade tackles with Confluence Queens.
