Major League Soccer outfit Philadelphia Union of Cameroonian defender Olivier Mbaizo recorded another hard fought MLS victory on Thursday against Chicago Fire.
The Match-day 21 fixture was an opportunity for leaders Philadelphia Union to extend their latest unbeaten run to six games.
Cameroon’s Olivier Mbaizo was left on the bench for Philadelphia Union.
The boys of coach Jim Curtin dominated the early stages of the game at the PPL park though without a clear cut opportunity for Mbaizo’s side.
It was on in the 28th minute that the host hard a real chance from the penalty spot.
27-year-old Polish forward converted from the spot-kick to make it one-nil for Mbaizo and co.
Chicago Fire FC had their problems compounded in the 36th minute when their defender Francisco Calvo was sent off.
Though they were playing with 10 men, Chicago Fire FC scored their equalizer in the 42nd minute through Slovenian forward Robert Berić.
It was parity at the break and certainly time for Mbaizo’s pace in the flank.
Coach Jim brought in the 23-year-old Cameroonian barely a minute from restart as they were hoping to make the most of an extra personnel.
Mbaizo’s trademark galloping runs in the flank was a ‘profitable investment’ over the course of the rest of the game.
Philadelphia Union scored what turned out to be their winner in the 65th minute when Mbaizo Olivier found Jamaican forward Cory Lamar Crossgill Burke with the ball in the box. The latter made Chicago to pay; Cory made it 2-1 with 25 minutes of regular time left.
Though they were multiple changes in personnel from both sides, there was no change in the scoreline till full-time.
The host won by two goals to one with an important contribution from Mbaizo.
Philadelphia Union lead Toronto FC by three points ahead of their match-day 22 encounter against third-seeded Colombus FC who are six points adrift with 35 points to their credit.
Mbaizo has featured in 14 games this term and assisted two goals.
