15 times champions of Cameroon Cotonsport of Garoua have named former goalkeeper Aboubakar Souleymanou as their head coach with immediate effect.
The retired footballer who previously coached the Garoua club replaces Ndoumbe Bosso who joined the club last year on a one-year deal that has not been renewed.
His appointment was confirmed this Tuesday in Garoua. He has signed a one year contract.
His new engagement with the club comes barely 24 hours after the club announced they were creating a club technical committee to be headed by former Denizlispor legend, Souleymanou Hamidou.
Hamidou will occupy his new roles alongside his role as the Olympic Lions goalkeeper coach. He will work with Gabriel Haman who is a member of the commission.
Coach Aboubakar comes with a huge experience. He won the 2019 Cup of Cameroon with Stade Renard of Melong and has previously managed Fovu of Baham, Feutcheu FC of Djiko Bandjoun amonsgt others. He will make his first appearance in the Cotonsport dugout this Sunday when they face Dragon in match-day 25 of the championship in Yaounde. He will be assisted by Gabriel Haman
Cotonsport as the club has moved from overwhelming title favourites with a five points lead to strugglers in the third spot with no win in their last 8 games largely because of the absence of Ndoumbe Bosso and over five players in camp with the intermediate Lions.
Fans of the club are hopeful the introduction of the new faces will work “magic” for the Garoua giants who have not won the title since they last did in 2018.
President Fernand Sadou will hope leaders Colombe and second-placed PWD of Bamenda drop points in the remaining 12 games without which their dreams of recovering the title they lost to UMS last season may end as a nightmare.
