The Burkina Faso football federation have officially abandoned their domestic football championship after a six weeks break following the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic.
The decision announced this Monday states that the competition which was in round 28 has been abandoned without a champion and no club will be relegated from the topflight championship while two clubs will be promoted from the second tier Championship which had ended with their champions.
The board members have decided to revert to last year’s competitions to get the country’s representatives in CAF inter-club competitions.
Therefore Rahimo FC[last season’s Faso cup champions and Salitas FC [Last season’s league champions] will represent the country in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
This Monday’s decision means Burkina Faso have joined Guinea, Mauritius Island and Kenya as the nations that have abandoned their local championships.
CAF has given all national federations on the continent till Tuesday May 5th to communicate their decision on the future of their championships.
