Bepanda-based side Astres of Douala have officially won promotion to the Cameroon Elite One championship.

Barely a season after they were controversially relegated to the second tier Championship, the boys of coach Anicet Mbarga Foe are back.

Astres emerged five nil winners in Wednesday’s Littoral derby against Dynamo of Douala

A hat trick from Kamta Julian, plus goals from Richard Bassama and Makon confirmed their side’s promotion.

The latest victory took the club’s point tally to 45 points after Match-day 26. With just two games left, the club is 12 points clear of fourth-placed OFTA of Kribi, mathematically sealing their promotion to the elite championship.

It has been a difficult season for the as they were logged in on and off the pitch battles to ensure they returned to the topflight.

Few months back, president Alim Konate of the Cameroon Transitional Technical Committee pronounced the club will be reinstated in the topflight next season irrespective of their results at the end of the current season.

Fortunately and for the good of the game the club has earned promotion on the pitch.
