26 year old Cameroonian forward Henriette Michelle Akaba Edoa has agreed a short term deal to play for Cameroonian Club Amazone FAP till the beginning of the World Cup tournament this June in France.
Akaba scored 5 goals and provided 6 assists for Besiktas in the current campaign for Turkish Division one side Besiktas. She has not had all going her way with the club since her return from the last AWCON despite scoring one goal and providing 2 assists in 3 games after her return.
Akaba returned to Cameroon and was in Camp with the Lionesses from the 5th of February till the 27. She has been retained for the next camping with the Lionesses that starts this week.
“I took this decision to protect my career, better prepare for the world cup and reflect better on days in future, I want to work very hard to participate in the world cup,it starts now in an environment I master very well”
Akaba scored 11 league goals and 3 champions League as she won the 2017 Turkish Women’s League one title with Atesehir Belediyespor before joining Besiktas for the 2018 season.
She will join International Colleague Mbeleck Genevieve who equally joined Amazone FAP week but it will not be a strange environment for Akaba as she came through the ranks of the club when she was still in the beginning of her career.
With 5 AWCON tournament appearances,2015 World cup experience,a Gold and a Silver medal in the all Africa games,UEFA Women’s Champions League experience plus successful stops in Thailand,Russia and Turkey, the woman who scored twice for Cameroon against Zimbabwe in the 2016 AWCON is a ”big catch” for Amazone FAP. Akaba could make a vital part of the Cameroon team in France if she continue scoring goals for Coach Alain Djeumfa as she did for Besiktas and Atehesir.
Akaba will forever be remembered as the player that scored the fastest goal in the one and only AWCON Cameroon has ever hosted. The striker wrote her name in the History books on the 25th November 2016 when she scored a goal within 2 minutes of kick off of Cameroon’s last AWCON group game against Zimbabwe, she doubled her tally on that day in the 50th minute and became the only Cameroon player to score twice in a single AWCON game in Cameroon.
