Recruited last January by Manchester United on loan with the option to buy him from Shanghai Shenhua, Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo has given a hint on his future.
According to reports from the English media, the 30-year-old Nigerian is reported to be happy with his situation at Manchester United and wishes to stay beyond the 2019-2020 season.
“I am inspired by a lot of things at United. I am truly inspired and I really wish to spend more time with this team,” the former Watford forward said.
“Looking at the team from outside, you can’t tell how big a club it is. But once you are inside, you can then understand the dimension of the club.
“I am inspired by the club’s structures and management. I am inspired by their youth football policies and how young players are nurtured and moved in the first team.”
United’s Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already made his intentions to keep the player beyond his current loan deal public.
The Red Devils will however have to face stiff opposition from Shanghai Shenhua, the player’s current employers, who are not ready to let go their precious jewel from Lagos. The Chinese Super League outfit has already lined up a-two-year contract extension for Ighalo with an almost irresistible salary of a reported £400,000 a week.
