Super Falcons of Nigeria forward, Michelle Alozie proved to be the heroine as she scored a stoppage-time equaliser to help her United States of America (USA) National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, Houston Dash to a 2-2 draw with Washington Spirit.
Sophie Schmidt opened the scoring for Houston Dash in the 22nd minute at the PNC Stadium, Houston.
Ashley Hatch scored two goals in the space of two second-half minutes (53rd and 55th minutes respectively) to give Washington Spirit a 1-2 lead.
Houston Dash’s coach, Amoros seeing the danger of another defeat after last game’s 2-1 loss to San Diego Waves replaced Nichelle Prince with Michelle Alozie in the 81st minute.
The substitution paid off as Michelle Alozie headed a cross from the right wing which hit the post before her rebound find the back of the net in the 91st minute to equalise the game for Houston Dash.
The goal was Michelle Alozie’s second NWSL goal of the season in six (6) games.
She scored her first goal for Houston Dash on June 4, 2022, during her team’s 5-0 bashing of Orlando Pride.
Houston Dash moved to the second position on the US NWSL table with 29 points from 18 games, two points behind San Diego Wave and a point ahead of Portland Thorns.
The team will next face Angel City FC on September 12, 2022, in its bid to either pick a ticket for the NWSL Playoffs semi-finals or quarter-finals.
The top two teams at the end of the season will qualify for the NWSL Playoffs semi-finals while the third to sixth-placed teams will make it to the quarter-finals.
