Hilltop Strikers has been crowned champions of the North West Regional league, following their one_nil win over Rainbow FC in the final played on Sunday afternoon at the Ntaafi field in Bamenda.
Hilltop Strikers and Rainbow had eliminated former elite teams Kumbo Strikers and Bang Bullet in the semi final, setting up a mouthwatering finale.
A highly contested first half at Ntaafi on Sunday, saw both sides returning to the dressing room tight zero all at pause, but Coach Ngwa Remy of Hilltop made a match changing substitution in the second segment, bringing in Genesis Suh Neba.
The forward scored the lone goal of the game with less than a quarter of an hour left to play, and Hilltop Strikers held tight to secure the win as they emerge champions of the North West Regional league.
Ngwa Remy’s Hilltop Strikers have breved all the odds, and have outsmarted the other 21 teams who took part in the regional league and are now aiming to continue in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Rangers FC of Bafut.
The Bamendakwe based club is therefore through to their first ever National interpools, with the hopes of bringing back another Elite two club in the North West Regional.
The North West Regional league is the first of the 10 regional championships to have already run to an end this term. The other nine Regional representatives will be known in the days ahead.
