2018-2019 Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL Champions, Rivers Angels have completed the signing of three Ghanaian players ahead of the 2020-2021 Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL season, www.kick442.com reports.
Goalkeeper Patricia Mantey (Ghana Immigration Services), midfielder Mary Essiful (Soccer Intellectuals Fc) and forward Gifty Acheampong (Thunder Queens FC), all agreed on one-year deals with the Port Harcourt based side.
Patricia Mantey, 28, was part of the Ghanaian team at the 2014 African Women’s Championships and also featured at the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON which was hosted by Ghana.
Mary Essiful, 27, was also part of the Ghanaian team at the 2014 African Women’s Championship while
Gifty Acheampong, 20, has played for Turkish Women’s First Football league side, 1207 Antalya Döşemealtı Belediyespor.
Acheampong was a member of the Ghana women’s national under-17 football team. She took part in four matches of the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup – Group D held in Jordan and scored two goals of three in total.
Rivers Angels emerged as 2018-2019 league winners and have since lost the services of top players like Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC), Tochukwu Oluehi (CD Pozoalbense), and Evelyn Nwabuoku (CD Pozoalbense).
The signing of these players is an expected move in a bid to replace their experienced players that have moved to France and Spain respectively.
