The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has fined Premiership side, Osun Babes of Osogbo, the sum of one million Naira (N1m) for assault of match officials by the club fans in the home game between the club and Naija Ratels FC of Abuja which took place on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of NWFL, Modupe Shabi noted in a press statement that the assault on the match officials took place when they were on their way to the hotel after the game.
“In line with Article 26.1, Osun Babes has been fined the sum of One Million Naira. In addition, one of Osun Babes’ supporters named Mr. Rosco has been suspended indefinitely from all NWFL organized Competitions with immediate effect, for instigating violence against match officials.
“Also in line with Article 16.5, Osun Babes risk banishment from playing their home matches in Osun State if their club supporters persistently cause disorder during home matches.”
Osun Babes occupy the sixth position on the seven-team Group A table of the 2021/2022 NWFL Premiership with seven points from eight games and will next face Confluence Queens in an away match on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
