Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, Aisha Falode has appealed and pleaded with clubs owing players backlogs’ salaries to pay as failure to do so will open players to different social vices.
“It is not fair that clubs are owing players salaries. We have been interfacing with the Commissioner. I am appealing to state governments. Not paying these players their salaries will open the players to different vices.
“I will commend Edo State Government for paying Edo Queens and Bendel Insurance equal salaries as well as building a befitting camp for the club.”
Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie on her Twitter handle has also reacted to the issue of non-payment of player’s salaries in the league.
“This is all shades of wrong. I am all against non-payment of players, not players but across all works of life. This is an appeal to all government and private organisations to please, do the needful. It’s called payment of service rendered, and should be mandatory.”
Players of the seven times league champions, Pelican Queens of Cross Rivers State are being owed ten months’ salaries and have staged a protest outside Governor’s Office for this reason as their plight is yet to be attended to.
