A new Chairperson has been elected to the saddle of the Nigeria Women Football League Club Owners Association.
During the association’s Elective Meeting which took place on Thursday at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Henrrientta Ehiabor of Delta Queens emerged as the new Chairperson defeating the former Chairperson Matilda Otuene of Rivers Angels.
Aminu Muhammed of Adamawa Queens also emerged as the Association’s Vice Chairman after defeating former Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa of FC Robo Queens.
Other elected Executive (EXCOS) members include Abolore Abdulrahman of DreamStars FC Ladies (Secretary), Sylva David of Abia Angels (Assistant Secretary), Ojo Oluwatosin of Confluence Queens (Treasurer), Odogun Kehinde Smith of Sunshine Queens (Financial Secretary), and Humphrey Njoku of Heartland Queens (Public Relations Officer, PRO).
Delta Queens Chairperson, Mrs. Henrrinetta Ehiabor emerged as the NWFL club owners association chairperson as she polled 16 votes to defeat Matilda Otuene who gathered 10 votes.
For the vice chairman position, the chairman of Adamawa Queens polled 14 votes to beat the proprietor of FC Robo Queens, Emmanuel Osahon who got 12 votes in the contest.
In the secretary position, Dream Star owner Abolore Abdulrahman polled 17 votes to defeat Osun Babe’s chairman, Tope Akinbade who got 9 votes.
The position of the PRO, financial secretary, treasurer, and assistant secretary was unopposed as the candidates were given the green light by the 26 present NWFL club owners at the election.
The newly elected Chairperson who is also the Chairperson of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Delta Queens, Henrrientta Ehiabor while speaking with media representatives said as a servant, she will work to enhance the Association and the league board.
“It was because I was the best candidate that o was elected. I think the Association deemed it fit that I can be able to represent them appropriately as a servant. I will work towards the benefits of the Club Owners and the growth of the Women’s League as well as helping to enhance the NWFL Board. It’s not a singular project as I want to work with each and every member as a collective effort and we all have to work together.” Says Henrrientta Ehiabor.
A member of the Association who was part of the Electoral Committee, Danny Nasar (Chairman of Dannaz Football Club) says the association should build on the past successes and also focus on other leagues and grassroots football apart from the NWFL Premiership.
“The election went very well. It was very transparent with healthy competition amongst the candidates and at the end of the day, we wish the winners well. We are meant to build on the successes of the past regime and also correct the mistakes that we have had.
It’s about time we move football to a better level and the country as a whole. We all came together and exercised our Democratic rights.
“It’s extremely important that we don’t focus on the present and try to focus on the future. Grassroots Football is very important. There is a lot of potential in women’s football as well as men’s football. The new EXCOS must carry everyone along and keep everybody on top of their games. They should try not to focus on the NWFL Premiership alone but the Championship and Nationwide leagues as well as grassroots football. It is also imperative to create healthy competition, transparency, and accountability. These are the things that I will advice them to be able to do.”
