Al Jazeera kept their hopes alive of finishing amongst the top two teams in Pool C after dispatching Babungo FA. A hattrick from Ntenka Hebert Mbahmboh ensured that Al Jazeera went home with all three points in a game played at the BGS School Field.
Al Jazeera made it two wins against Babungo FA this football season after winning the first leg between the two teams. In the first leg, it was Al Jazeera that won Babungo FA 2-0.
It was Babungo FA who began the game on the front foot as they looked to catch Al Jazeera off-guard. Gungho Giovani produced the first shot of the game for Babungo at the 6mins but his effort was saved.
Al Jazeera will slowly get into the game after almost conceding the first goal. The team stepped up their pressure and produced their first effort at the 10mins with Herbert shot but it was saved by goalkeeper Cyril.
Ojong Ebane will then come close to scoring for Al Jazeera at the 12mins but lobed ball above the un-rushing goalkeeper Cyril could only go above the crossbar. Ebane will come close again a few minutes after his last effort but a fine save from goalkeeper Cyril denied him.
Despite all their effort, it was Babungo who took the lead in the encounter. An own goal from Ndu Daniel at the 27mins gave a glimmer of hope to Babungo that they may go on to win the game.
That wish will, however, die before the break as Al Jazeera scored the equalizer. Herbert stepped up at the 45+1mins to score from the penalty spot, a goal that will go on to reinvigorate the Al Jazeera side in the second half.
Just a few minutes into the second half, Al Jazeera took the lead for the first time in the encounter. Herbert scored a beautiful goal at the 49mins. This time, goalkeeper Cyril could not keep Herbert out, something he had been doing excellently in the game.
Babungo seeing defeat looming then mounted their attack to try and bring the game to an even score. Most of their efforts could not trouble goalkeeper Divine, who faced just a few shots on his goal.
Al Jazeera will then put daylight against Babungo as they scored their third and final goal of the game. Herbert was on hand to score his hattrick at the 63mins. And that is how the game will end at full time with Al Jazeera picking up all three points and Babungo reeling from their miss opportunities in the game.
The win for Al Jazeera sees the team moving to 15 points in Pool C. The team is just 1 point behind leaders Istanbul FA who was exempted from this round of fixtures. Al Jazeera currently has 12 goals, one more than Istanbul. Babungo is still in the fourth position with four points.
