Rivers United defeated Enyimba of Aba by a lone goal in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day eleven rescheduled game on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Sunday Adetunji powered home a glancing header after a precise cross by Kazie Enyinnaya for a deserved lead in the 85th minutes.
Adetunji who was a substitute in the game scored his first NPFL goal in 1,058 days. His last league goal came against Plateau United in 2018.
River United who had lost the first leg of the tie by a goal to nil, put up a good performance to conquer their rivals that stopped them from progressing to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers controlled the game having 21shots as against Enyimba’s 2. 8 shots were in target while Enyimba had one shot on target.
The result takes Rivers to fourth on the league table while defending champion Enyimba drop to seventh position.
