Nyima Nwagua’s brace gave Kano Pillars its first win in the 2019/2020 Nigerian Professional Football League season against Akwa Starlet at the Uyo Stadium.

Rabiu Ali’s two assists and Nwangwa’s brace combined to end a run of winning drought in five games for Kano Pillars.

It was an impressive performance for a Pillars side who have been a shadow of itself against an in form Awka Starlet.

Prior to today’s game Pillars had drawn goalless against league leaders Plateau United in Jos on Sunday. And that may have been tonic needed by the team to get its first win.

In the match, it was Pillars who looked eager to get the first goal and as it seemed, Nwagua didn’t disappoint as he scored in the twenty seventh minutes to end a run of 493 minutes in the NPFL without a goal for Pillars.

Nwagua scored through Ali’s assist to put Sai Masu Gida ahead.

Moses Effiong however, restored parity for the Starlet in the seventy fifth minutes.

Three minutes later, Nwangwa cut short the celebration of the home side as he scored his second of the game, a goal that proved enough to give the Kano side its first win of the season.

The win takes Pillars away from the relegation zone to fifteen places after amassing a total of six points in six matches.

The victory also comes after Pillars inspirational captain was pardon by the LMC after he had served four out of his twelve match ban and the return of the Kano fans after serving their match ban also.
