Veteran forward Nwagua has spoken of his happiness for his goal that proved decisive against rivals Kano Pillars in a match day six of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Nwagua spoke with journalists after the match at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
”It feels quite good scoring the only goal of the game today against Rivers United. It was actually a tough encounter where we had to play against a team coming back from CAF Confederations Cup where they won with good confidence and everything. It has been a side that has been running on a very good plane this season. So, it wasn’t an easy game.
”Scoring the only goal and also begging the man of the match was a good thing today for my team also. We are actually looking for results like this so that our confidence and strength will go for the next game we going for.”
Rivers were condemned to the second defeat of the season after six matches as 10-man Pillars held on to a goal scored in the 19th minutes to get all three points.
The home side got into the scheme of things earlier in the game, but couldn’t much out of the control of the game.
However, the goal came after a blunder by goalkeeper Afelokhai gifted Nwagua to score
The score remained one nil as each team tried to better their lot. However, in the second half, the away side improved on their game.
In the 51st minutes, Abbas Rabiu was given the matching order for deliberate ball handling.
Coach Stanley Eguma sought to exploits the numerical strength of his team as he brought on Bobby Clement and Nelson Esor Okwa for Konan Ruffin and Stephen Gopey.
But Sai Musa Gida defense was able to neutralize the onslaught from the pride of rivers.
The result of the match means Rivers United remain second while Kano Pillars occupy the fifth position.
