Abia State teams secured all three points in the match day eight of the 2020/2021 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), the first time it will be happening this season as Enyimba and Abia Warriors were all winners both at home or away from home.
For the People’s Elephant, they recorded their second win of the campaign beating third place team Nasarawa United at the Mafia Stadium by two goals to one.
The eight-time champions of the league played for about 30 minutes with 10 men but held on to win and go top pending the outcome of the Rivers United match.
Enyimba scored first as Abubakar turned Tosin Omoyele’s cut back into his own net
leaving Danlami Umar in no-man’s land in the 16th minutes
But the home team replied almost immediately after Chinedu Ohanachom rose highest to head home Katoh Haggai’s pinpoint cross.
Time minutes later, the away side got a penalty after Anayo Iwuala was tripped in the box by Sadiq Abdulrazaq. The penalty kick was well taken by Olisema Cyril to make it 2-1 for Enyimba.
In the second half, Omaka left Enyimba edgy after his elbow to Ohanachom earned him a red card.
Enyimba nevertheless held on to get the vital victory.
Abia Warriors got their first win of the season and in style they did after eight matches. They won by 4 goals to one.
Bello Lukman’s brace with Fatai Abdullahi and Emmanuel Ugwuka’s goals gave Coach Imama’s boys a deserved win at Okigwe.
Fatai Abdullahi scored in the 16th minutes while Emmanuel Egwuka made it to give the Warriors a comfortable lead in the first half.
Sunshine Stars reduced the deficit through Sadeeq Yusuf in 61st minutes. However, Bello restored the home side two-goal lead 6 minutes later. He completed his brace in the 78th minutes.
Mfon Udoh’s scored directly from the corner kick in the 58th minutes to hand three points to Akwa United against Adamawa United at the Yola Stadium.
The home team’s chance of levelling the score suffered a setback as defender Abubakar Jibrin was sent off for second bookable offence for a dissent.
Akwa United went on to win by a goal to nil after 90 minutes.
