In the concluding matches of match day eight fixtures of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Katsina United defeated Rivers United while Heartland FC and Ifeanyi Ubah played out a one all draw.
Katsina United put up a great performance to beat second place Rivers United at the Muhammed Dikko Stadium and move out of the relegation zone on Thursday.
The Changi Boys started well taking the lead as early as the fifth minutes through Faisal Sani’s direct freekick.
Katsina United continued with the momentum to score, but it was the away team that almost equalled score, goalkeeper Yusuf however made double saves at different times to keep the lead for his side.
At the 19th minutes, the home side were celebrating as Boubacar Massaly doubled the lead. He went all alone from the halfway line and fired low into the net.
Katsina went into the half with the lead, however the pride of Rivers United tried coming back into the game.
Nelson Esor pulled one back for the Pride of Rivers in the 71st minutes strike, but Rivers United couldn’t come back to the game.
In another game, Ifeanyi Ubah got an away point at the Dan Ayiam Stadium after a 1-1 draw.
The home side were in front after Emmanuel Adachi scored from the spot in the 31st minutes. Heartland FC held on to their lead till the end of the half.
Chinemerem Igboeli headed into an empty net from a free kick which Heartland goalkeeper Ezenwa failed to deal with.
The result keeps the two teams in 17th and 18th on the log.
