The remain games of match Day nine fixtures of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) were completed with two games which saw Rivers United beat former league leaders, Nasarawa United two goals to nil while Kano Pillars piped FC Ifeanyi Ubah by a goal to nil both in Portharcourt.
Malachi Ohawume’s header put the pride of Rivers in front after seventh minutes.
He ran onto a beautiful lob by Fortune Omoniwari and came one on one with the goal goalkeeper. His initial attempt over the goalkeeper hit the post and he benefitted from the rebound to head in the opener.
Nelson Esor doubled the lead for the home team in the seventy-fifth minutes of the match.
The substitute benefited from goalkeeper Danlami Umar’s failure to deal with Bakary Bamba’s free kick to score.
At this time, it looked home and dry for Rivers United who moved second with 18 points ahead of Kwara United with a goal difference.
