Akwa United got their second win of the season through a lone goal scored by star forward Ndifreke Effiong in the first match of the game at the Uyo Township Stadium on Saturday.
The Orange Boys had not had it so smooth this season at home and a win against giant Kano Pillars was much required.
It was Akwa all through from the blast of the whistle to signal the beginning of the game to the last minutes played in the first half. Seven attempts to the home while none went to the away side.
Ndifreke Effiong gave Akwa United a deserved lead with a brilliant header to Etboy Akpan’s superb cross in the 29th minutes.
Effiong almost made it two before the end of the break if not for the composure of goalkeeper Idrissu who made a point blank save.
Pillars seemed to have gotten to their rhythm at the start of the second phase when Rabiu Ali gave the northern side their first attempt at goal in the game.
Akwa remained strong and with their good display maintained their lead till the end of the game.
