Rivers United recorded their first loss of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season on Wednesday as they fell to Wikki Tourist by a goal to nil.
A 29th minutes free kick by Wikki’s Chinedu Udeagha was enough to settle scores for both sides at Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
After four consecutive wins; a two nil win against Bloemfontein Celtic and 1-0 wins against Rangers International and Abia Warriors while 3-0 win over Kwara United, the Porthacourt loses todat and the coach, Stanley Eguma believes the loss is due to fatigue.
“After the game we played on Sunday, we had a terrible moment travelling to Bauchi. We had a hectic period because fatigue was very very instrumental to our lose today.”
“Maybe because of the breakdown we had on the road on our way coming. But I think that the players tried their best. We have lost today but we still have other games to play. We are going to correct our mistakes and work on the fatigue issue.”
Rivers United play Heartland FC at home next and will seek to bounce back to winning ways.
