After a poor start to the beginning of the NPFL season, Heartland of Owerri secured their first win in style by beating Eastern brothers, Enyimba of Aba by two goals to nil.
The Naze millionaires pulled the chest nut out of the fire with a brilliant display against eight time NPFL champions in a match many never gave to the Imo based team.
Nevertheless, Owerri has not been an easy place to come for the Aba side as Heartland dominated in previous meetings.
Shedrack Oghali of Heartland made sure the story was the same this time as he heads the Naze Millionaires in front in the oriental derby in the 33rd minutes.
In spite of Enyimba’s few occasion of brilliance and a penalty shout in the 41st minutes, the first phase ended one nil in favour of the home side.
The intensity continued in the second half, but it was Heartland who extended their lead through Emmanuel Adachie’s strike.
Adachie held off challenge from Enyimba FC defenders to blast the ball into the net in the 53rd minutes.
The away side tried getting something out of the game, but the Science Boys stayed strong to record their first win of the season.
