Ten matches were played in the Nigerian Professional League on Wednesday across the match day centres with nine wins and a draw. Out of the nine wins, three were away wins and six home wins.
Defending champions, Enyimba got a win to make it back-to-back victory after winning three goals to nil against Sunshine Stars on Sunday. The people’s elephant like they are also known, defeated Adamawa United two goals to nil at the Adamawa Stadium.
Stanley Dimgba opened score late in the half time for Enyimba as the defending champions go to the dressing room with the lead after a one-two with Anayo Iwuala and an assist by Oliseh Olisema.
Olisema made it two in the second half after Adamawa keeper Victor Philemon could not keep out Victor Mbaoma’s first attempt which fell for Olisema to smash it in.
Rangers Int’l were another side that got an away win against Dakkada International of Uyo.
It was an hard fought 2-3 win as Rangers held on till the end after being reduced to ten men in the 77th minute.
The home side drew the first blood as early as the 6th minute through Femi Ajayi. However, Israel Abia equalised in the 21st minute while Ibrahim Olawoyin scored for Rangers before the first half ended. Femi Ajayi completed his brace to restore parity for Dakkada International in the 62nd minute. Israel Abia made sure the match ended in favour of Rangers with goal in the 70th minute.
Kastina United also got a sweet victory at home against Sunshine Stars after Suleman Ibrahim 38th and Joseph Atule 67th minutes goals gave Katsina United the lead before Silas Nwankwo in the 74th minute pulled one back but it was too late for anything significant to happen.
Meanwhile, the top three teams in the league; Plateau United, Rivers United and Lobi Stars all got a win in their respective matches.
Plateau United won 2-1 against Kwara United after a brace by Ibrahim Mustapha in the 16th through a penalty and in the 25th minute. Ajibola Adekeke scored in the 50th minute for Kwara United.
Rivers United defeated Warri Wolves 3-0 at the Port Harcourt Stadium. Malachi Ohawume scored in the 38th minute while Kunle Odunlami made it two in the 73rd minute. Malachi completed his brace at the dead of half time.
Lobi Stars, at the Aper Aku Stadium bounced back to victory as they defeated Ifeanyi Ubah by a lone goal. Samad Kadiri’s early goal in the 5th minute was all that was needed.
Kano Pillars fell to a one nil loss at the hands of Wikki Tourist at the Bauchi Stadium. Idris Guda Mohammed’s penalty in the 55th minute was the needed goal for victory.
Ali Kalla’s late penalty goal gave Jigawa Golden Stars a 2-1 win over Heartland FC of Owerri. Ali Maro had scored his first of the match in the 28th minute but Chidera Eze had put the two teams at par.
MFM FC of Lagos secured a 2-1 win against Abia Warriors at the Agege Township Stadium. Dennis Obasi in the 18th minute and Clement Ogwu’s 29th minute gave the church boys the lead before Fatai Abdullahi reduced the deficit in the 54th minute.
