Enyimba of Aba opened their 2020/2021 NPFL season campaign with a win over rivals and neighbours Aba Warriors at the Aba Township Stadium on Tuesday.
The People’s Elephant of Aba pipped the Uchendo Boys 1-0 courtesy of new recruit Samad Khadiri who led the line for enyimba in today’s keenly contested tie.
It was Enyimba piling all the pressure in the first phase of the game, but goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke’s brilliance kept the scoreline goalless.
Abia Warriors will not be fortunate this time as Enyimba who started from their dominating first half got a penalty in the 51st minutes after the ball came off Fatai’s arm for the referee to point to the spot.
Khadiri converted the spot kick to score his debut goal and what turned out to be Enyimba’s win.
The win is Enyimba’s fifth win over Abia Warriors in their last meetings and Fatai Osho’s third win against the warriors.
Rivers United host Rangers in the final fixture of match day one at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium at 4pm tomorrow.
