Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commenced the payment of outstanding salaries and sign-on fees of players and officials of Kwara United Football Club.
The approval and payment are in fulfillment of the financial criteria of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Club Licensing Regulations, ahead of the commencement of the 2020/2021 NPFL season.
It would be recalled that Kwara United FC players and officials were owed salaries and sign-on fees between 2013 and 2019.
The Chairman of the club, Kumbi Titiloye, who confirmed the development said that the first approval covers 50 percent salaries of players of the main and feeders team for the month of March 2019, and full salaries for players and officials of the main and feeders team for November 2015.
He said that the government will continue to release the money approved monthly, in installments, until completed.
He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s gesture, while he also commended the players and officials for showing understanding.
He said that the Governor has shown great understanding, especially when it mattered most, and that he has again, demonstrated his unalloyed support and love for the club, and sports generally.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Players Union in the state, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF), in a release signed by it’s Secretary, Ganiyu Balogun has thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the commencement of the payment of the outstanding salaries and sign-on fees.
They commended the Governor for applying wisdom and understanding, in alleviating the problem of some players, whom he said have retired from active football.
He assured the Governor that the union will continue to support his administration.
In a related development, Kwara United has unveiled Brazilian winger Ribeiro Alves, Lucas ahead of the coming Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL season.
The unveiling ceremony was done on Monday morning, October 5, at the Kwara United office inside the stadium complex in Ilorin.
Lucas Alves who last played for Seahorses LA expressed happiness after being unveiled and also promised to give his best performance for Kwara United in the coming season.
“I am happy joining Kwara United and I’m here to help the club achieve the goals and targets for the coming League season.
“The environment here is cool and thanks to the club’s chiefs who have been making me feel at home since I came to Nigeria,” Lucas Alves explained.
Former Super Eagles and Enyimba goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba joined Kwara United after returning from Israel.
Midfielder Jide Fatokun from Sunshine Stars, Bashiru Monsuru from Nasarawa United, and Michael Ohanu from Akwa United are also among players signed by Kwara United.
