After a successful hosting of the maiden edition of the Bamenda Solidarity Pre-season Tournament organized by football die hearts in the region, and supported by FECAFOOT North West, coaches leading Elite teams of the region in Cameroon’s top flight championship have expressed satisfaction and the importance of the competition as they gear up for the 2021/2022 football season.
From it’s beauty, Elite coaches in the region have professed the importance of the tournament stating how important it has been to them, preparing ahead of the 2021/2022 Elite one and two Championship expected in the days ahead.
Tama Wango, PWD’s Assistant coach;
“The first lesson it is a pre-season tournament and we gave the opportunity to almost all the players to showcase individually, we have seen the level of some players that we thought they could join the band of PWD of Bamenda so when we get back to training we will work on them. Secondly we have recruited three goal keepers to replace Haschou Kerrido, and Kareem Bello who was in the sticks is one of them. And we are impressed i would want to say Bello has never played in an elite team neither a regional team with his performance I can give him 90% success rate. This competition is simply helping us get the best and understand the squad we are building ahead of the championship.”
Anumewa Franklin, Head coach Rangers FC of Bafut;
“Because we actually played against PWD, for me that’s the best team in Cameroon. The results that we had was positive, I think they are almost ready and we are still on our way to correct certain things that we will correct during our training sessions.
The league is going to be intense and short since we are already behind the calendar, so we have to catch up. We can’t say we are 100% prepared already but I think we are at 75-80% so the 20% we will have to work hard and see that we make up. The tournament has been a very helpful one, since we now know our weaknesses and will know how ti correct them.”
Nkabyo Martin, Head coach YOSA;
“Following the departure of some players abroad with some switching sides, we’ve brought in a couple of young new players. It’s now important that we build a team with plenty of understanding. They are still getting to know each other… Though we’re not really playing to win it’s still important we do for the morals. However the games we’re looking for to win are games against teams like Coton Sport, Canon etc. To do that we need a play formation and idea that the players can understand and deliver the results.”
The competition which ran from February 4-19, 2022, saw eight teams (YOSA, PWD, Rangers FC of Bafut, Rainbow FC, Hilltop Strikers, Foncha Street FC, Option Sports and Bafmeng FC) in the region drawn from the elite and regional championship, with Rangers FC of Bafut bagging the maiden trophy humiliating Rainbow FC 3#0.
