Despite being top of the league table before the Coronavirus imposed lockdown, Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana and Chelsea bound Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech will not be Dutch league winners as the season has been declared null and void.
Ajax were joint top of the Eredivisie table with AZ Alkmaar on 56 points after 25 games, before the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Despite being top of the log on goal difference, Ajax will miss out on the chance of winning a 35th Dutch top flight title.
Another club to be badly hit by the decision to cancel the season is Cambuur, the second tier leaders who had a comfortable 11 points lead at the top of the second tier table, as promotion and relegation have also been canceled.
In a vote to decide the outcome of the season, 16 clubs voted in favour of enabling promotion and relegation for the Dutch top flight.
A further nine clubs opposed the choice to let their competitions move into different leagues, with nine more abstaining and leaving the final decision in the hands of the Dutch FA.
The Dutch FA then finally decided on the option that clubs should stay in their current divisions upon the resumption of football.
This decision will be a welcomed one for fans and players of ADO Den Haag and RKC Waalwijk as both relegation threatened clubs are now sure to remain in the Dutch top tier for another season.
The Dutch FA also made it clear that the option of a 20 teams Eredivisie was off the table.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic had pushed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to ban all professional football activities in the country till September 1st.
Holland are the first country to take the bold step to cancel their domestic season due to the suspension of their leagues as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Five African players have missed out of the chance to win the Dutch league title had Ajax been awarded the title.
24-year-old Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana, 22-year-old Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui, 27-year-old Moroccan midfielder Zakaria Labyad, 27-year-old Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech and 19-year-old Burkinabe forward Lassina Traore, were all going to be crowned Dutch champions had Ajax gone on to win the league.
