Gateway United Football Club, Gombe United, Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC) and Bendel Insurance ended 2019 with victories as the Nigeria National League (NNL) Match Day five (5) commence on Saturday, December 21, 2019.

ABS FC 1-0 Kogi United
Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC) of Ilorin, Kwara State earned a slim 1-0 victory over neighboring state club, Kogi United. Muiz Adeoti headed into an empty net after Samuel’s free kick hit the upright to give ABS FC the victory in the 38th minute. Both sides were reduced to 10 men after Adeoti’s goal. In the 75th minute, Kogi United were reduced to 10 men after Tenimu received his second booking of the match. Host, ABS FC followed suit in the 85th minute when Samuel Ayodeji was also sent off for his second booking.

Gombe United 2-1 Sokoto United
Gombe United defeated Sokoto United 2-1 at Pantami Stadium. Auwal Yusuf tab in Usman Rabiu’s diagonal pass to give the host the lead in the 46th minute. Sokoto United equalised in the 70th minute in a controversial manner. Assistant Referee raised the flag up for offside but the centre referee awarded the goal for the visitors.
In the 74th minute, Issa Gata restored Gombe United lead with the winning goal.

Gateway United FC 2-0 Abia Comet
Seyi Okeowo was the star of the show as Gateway United defeated Abia Comets 2-0 in a Matchday 5 clash at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.

On the back of their last match in Omoku which the Ogun state based outfit lost 1-0 to Go Round FC, Gateway United started on the front foot as they took the game to their visitor much to the delight of the home fans.
The hosts had their first chance from a free kick but Micheal Okolo’s effort lacked the required fire to beat the Comets’ goalkeeper.
Seyi Okeowo would then miss a sitter in the 15th minute as his lob over the goalkeeper in a one on one situation went inches wide.
Not to be deterred, Seyi Okeowo eventually gave Gateway United the lead in the 22nd minute after he expertly met a delightful cross from Julius Ikechukwu.
The woodwork was to the rescue of the visitor as Karamor Tubor’s thunderbolt from way out beat the goalkeeper but not into the net.
The chance was the only opening both teams could create as Akeem Busari led side headed into the break with the advantage.
The team however started the second half the way they stopped the first striking the woodwork twice in quick succession.
Gateway United were rewarded for their bright start to the second half when a long ball was floated into the area, met by Seyi Okeowo, who controlled, flicked one over the defender to find the left upright in the 53rd minute. Classic finish.
In the 65th minute, Another chance, Seyi Okeowo’s header was cleared off the line.
There was no further effort from both teams as Gateway United eased to a routine win to make it three wins from three home matches.

The NNL Match Day 5 will continue on Sunday, December 22, 2019 after which the league will go on break to resume, January 10, 2020 for Matchday 6 with Gateway United visiting Osun United in Osogbo on the 11th.
