Gateway United FC of Ogun State have called off its training on Monday 24th February, 2020 in honour of Tiyamiyu Kazeem, the Remo Stars defender who was reportedly killed by an operative of Special Anti Robbery Squad from the Ogun State command on Saturday 22nd February, 2020.
The football family not only in Ogun State but Nigeria by extension has been thrown into mourning with a call on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the officers in question face the wrath of the law.
Cancellation of Monday’s training is the least the Abeokuta based club could do in honour of the deceased, according to Acting General Manager of Gateway United, Mr Niyi Soleye.
“We are still in shock over such an untimely death caused by unethicality and non professionalism of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of Ogun State police command. It is highly condemnable. We ought to be celebrating the potentiality of the deceased if not for this untimely death”
“In our own little way, tomorrow’s training has been cancelled as we continue to mourn and pray for the family of the deceased and Remo Stars family”, he concluded.
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Oyo State also followed suit in a statement released by the club media department.
In honour of Remo Stars assistant captain, Tiamiyu Kazeem, who died last Saturday, the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Monday training has been cancelled.
According to the chief coach of the Oluyole Warriors, Edith Agoye, the development became necessary as the entire 3SC team joins other Nigerians in mourning the departed Tiamiyu.
“We are saddened by the unfortunate death of one of us, Tiamiyu Kazeem, a player of Remo Stars who passed on last weekend and we have decided to honour him in our own little way by calling off Monday’s training.
“We pray that God grants him eternal rest just as we pray that God will console the family he left behind , his colleagues and friends,” said coach Agoye.
Meanwhile, the Ibadan soccer lords will resume training on Tuesday morning, in preparation for the resumption of hostilities in the Nigeria National League (NNL), which has been slated to restart on Saturday, March 14.
The Executive Governor of Ogun State, where the incident occurred (Prince Dapo Abiodun) has pleaded with the residents of Sagamu to remain calm and not exhibit any form of lawlessness pertaining to Tiamiyu Kazeem’s death as investigation continues on the situation.
