Nigerian athlete, Stephen Ogochukwu Mozia has announced his retirement from the throwing game after nine years of being involved in the sport.
The 26-year old American-Nigerian, took to his Instagram page to announce his retirement.
“After a lot of reflecting of all the great memories & people I’ve met, I’ve decided to officially retire from throwing. Not saying I’ll never pick up an instrument again for a fun meet/two, but it’s time to move on,” He said.
Though born of Nigerian parents, Mozia was born and raised in the United States of America where he schooled and started out his career first as a sprinter than later as a discuss athlete.
He represented the USA in the World Junior Championship where in came 10th place in the championship.
Mozia later seized the opportunity of having the dual citizenship of an American and a Nigerian to represent Nigeria later on in 2014.
He emerged as African Champs Bronze medallist three times and represented Nigeria in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mozia has a best of 62.80 metres in the discus throw (Jacksonville 2014).
