2020 Nigeria Women Amateur League kicked off on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 with two (2) games.

The hugely anticipated derby of two (2) women clubs from Kwara State (Kwara Derby) ends in 1-1 draw. As early as the 6th minute, Ismail Zainab scored the first goal of the match for Kwara Ladies. It took a late strike from Nafisat AbdulRasheed in the 87th minute to equalise for Moje Queens.
Shitu Kafayat Folakemi was impressed after the game. “I am really impressed about the game because of my ladies. They really tried very well and they put in our efforts. We thank God it’s not that bad with a draw so our next match will be better than this one.” She opined after the keenly contested match.
On the part of Kwara Ladies, the coach, Olajide Peter Muyiwa appreciated the league board for organizing the tournament as well as stating his disappointments. “I seriously appreciate Nigeria Women Football League for organizing this beautiful tournament. It is a good game but what I will try to advise is to help encourage our referees to always balance the game in order not to jeopardize the efforts of players and coaches alike. The coach of other team also complained about this. We all know that this game is a local derby as the two sides are coming from the same state. It was a good game, we thank God.”

Earlier on Naija Ratels and Ubakala Queens also played out another 1-1 draw. Effiom Ekang 18th minute goal for Ubakala Queens was cancelled by Kemi Akintan 36th minute leveller for Naija Ratels.
