Nigeria female Cricket team making a debut a the ICC World Cup Africa Women Qualifier in Zimbabwe defeated Group A foes Mozambique by 8 wickets. It’s Nigeria’s second game after a loss to Rwanda on Sunday.
It was great result for the debutants who needed to win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the women’s cricket world after their loss to Rwanda.
The Nigerian team’s player, Blessing Etim was the hero of the day and player of the match as she scored a hattrick to help to victory against Mozambique. In cricket, hattrick is three wickets in three CONSECUTIVE balls. Three wickets in three balls bowled.
The ICC Women’s Qualifier Africa 2019 in Harare will see nine teams slug it out in seventeen matches with only one team makes it through. The ICC Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier scheduled to take place from 5th – 12th May 2019 in Zimbabwe.
The nine-team event is a T20 competition serving not only as part of the pathway for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020, but will also help decide the participants in the ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand in 2021.
The Nigeria National Women’s team AKA Female Yellow Greens who are featuring for the first will have their work cut out against the host Zimbabwe, Namibia amongst others.
The Female Yellow Greens will take on Tanzania on Wednesday.
