Nigeria and Benin Republic are being considered to co-host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025).
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) plans to strip off the hosting rights from Guinea.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick has confirmed this to journalists.
Cameroon hosted the 2021 AFCON which took place in 2022 where the Teranga Lions of Senegal won the title for the first time.
The next AFCON slated to take place next year in Cote d’Ivoire has been moved to 2024.
Nigeria last co-hosted the AFCON with Ghana in 2000 as Indomitable Lions clinched the title defeating Super Eagles of Nigeria on penalties after a 2-2 scoreline in regulation time.
Nigeria has twice hosted AFCON, the first time in 1980 where the country won the title for the first time before co-hosting the tournament with Ghana in 2000.
Morocco in recent times has been hosting major CAF competitions from CHAN 2018, 2021/2022 CAF Champions League final, TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2022), CAF Awards 2022, and will host the second edition of TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in October.
The country might not be ruled out of hosting the AFCON if Nigeria and Benin Republic fall short of hosting AFCON 2025.
