Cameroon’s elegant center-half Nicolas Nkoulou is a transfer target for Italian giants Napoli, Tuttosport has reported.
Two times Serie A winners, Napoli are interested in the CV of the 30-year-old who has one more year on his contract, and it will only be witty for his current club Torino to let go, since they haven’t been able to convince the 2017 AFCON winner to get a contract extension.
In his third season with Serie A side Torino, Nkoulou has accumulated 26 games in all competitions and played a huge part in helping Torino stay above the waterline in their current Serie A position (15) midway through the campaign.
The modern-day defender who finds no problem building up from the back or sticking in a foot like the old-fashioned center-half would do, hit the ground running last two seasons in his first time of asking in Italy. Since the defender’s sort of ‘one hit wonder’ narrative, European giants have been breathing down the neck of Torino, Napoli inclusive.
Nkoulo’s first season at Torino was on loan from French side Lyon, but his stay was made permanent, for a reported fee of £3.50 million on July 1, 2018.
Since Nkoulou kicked a ball in Torino colours, he has played 103 times and scored four goals in the process, for the Turin based side.
Napoli has activitely used three center backs this season: Koulibaly, Manolas and Maksimovic. With offers coming in a triangular form for Senegalese international Koulibaly, Nkoulou is said be to be the most likely replacement.
Nkoulo’s current market value is estimated to be £ 11 million but it could climb even higher, depending on how high the other suitors bid.
