Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon midfielder Nicolas Alnoudji has revealed that former Real Madrid star and 2000 UEFA player of the year Award winner Fernando Redondo Solari mentored him from a distance.
Speaking in a recent interview with this Pan African Sports News Agency, Alnoudji recounted how he battled with his parents in his quest to become a professional footballer and explained how watching Redondo on duty for Argentina and Real Madrid inspired him.
“My greatest challenge in life was for my parents to accept my passion for football,Alnoudji started.
“Being in Garoua, it was very difficult for my parents to permit me follow the path of becoming a footballer.”
Just like other African children, the former PSG midfielder was oblige to further his studies at the expense of becoming a footballer.
But, his passion for football intensified the disagreement to the extend that he was displaced from
” My mum was emphatic about her position about my becoming a footballer. She masterminded my transfer from Garoua to another town just to stop me. Yet, while there, the former Cotonsport I continued playing until I finally moved to the Brasserie football Academy” he continued.
Like most football stars, Nicolas Alnoudji had a mentor, his was Fernando Rendondo, from whom he incarnated virtues of calmness, resilence and intelligence in the midfield. Speaking about his source of inspiration to kick442.com, the former Rizespor man didn’t blink.
“Well it was about the Redondo-way, I had strong admiration for the midfield great. He was a complete player and my mentor, the erstwhile Bamboutos FC of Mbouda midfield anchor-man concluded.
Nicolas Alnoudji defied the difficulties became a professional footballer, won 22 caps for Cameroon winning the Olympic gold medal in 2000 and the 2002 AFCON title.
The ex-Lions has retired and resides in Garoua with his family.
