Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and Confederation of African Football have remembered former Super Eagles captain and coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi after his demise in 2016.
In a message on NFF official Twitter handle, the football ruling body in the country eulogises Keshi.
“Today we remember former
captain and coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi. Big Boss we miss you, continue to rest in the Lord’s bosom. #WeRememberKeshi”.
The tweet was accompanied by a quote, “People don’t have to believe in you to succeed. Just work hard, when you succeed, they will believe. Forever in our hearts”. Two pictures of Keshi while he was the coach of Super Eagles of Nigeria also accompanied the tweet as well as while celebrating the 2013 African Cup of Nations, AFCON triumph with Daniel Amokachi.
In the same vein, Confederation of African Football, CAF also remembered the “Big Boss” as Keshi was fondly called on their social media with his picture and a message.
“Today we remember Captain Fantastic, Stephen Keshi, who left our world on this sad day 4 years ago
Keshi captained Nigeria’s golden generation of 1994 that included the likes of Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, and others, as they reached the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history in the USA, and won Africa Cup of Nations title in Tunisia same year.
In 2013 Keshi became the second person to win the # TotalAFCON title as player and coach, when he led Nigeria Super Eagles to their third trophy in South Africa.” The message read.
Stephen Keshi died on June 7, 2016, of a heart attack in Benin City, Edo State. He is the only Nigerian to have won the AFCON trophy as player and coach as he won the tournament as a player at Tunisia 1994 and as coach at South Africa 2013.
